Anemia Panel 2 Test Overview

The anemia panel 2 test is used by doctors to understand the underlying cause of anemia in a patient. This test measures the levels of different blood components that are related to anemia. The results help doctors understand how your body produces and uses red blood cells. This information is then used in the development of the best possible treatment plan for the patient. The different blood elements that are tested in this panel test are complete blood count, serum iron studies, ferritin protein, total albumin, A:G ratio, transferrin, CRP, and lead blood.

When is an Anemia Panel 2 Test Prescribed?

An anemia panel 2 test is prescribed by doctors when they are certain to a degree that you have anemia and they want to understand the underlying cause of it. This helps in the development of a custom treatment plan that would fit your physical needs and treat your symptoms as quickly as possible.

The symptoms that doctors look for before prescribing this test are similar to the ones they would look for before prescribing an anemia panel 1 test. So, in most cases, doctors will only prescribe an anemia panel 2 test when they have the reports of anemia panel 1 test and are confirmed that the patient has anemia.

Procedure And Prerequisites

The anemia panel 2 test is a blood test that is performed by drawing blood from the veins in the arms of the patient. As a prerequisite it is recommended that patients fast overnight and opt for sample collection in the morning before noon. This ensures that the sample yields the most accurate results that would help with the diagnosis. Doctors may also recommend you to stop taking any iron supplements that you may have before the test.
