What is the Anemia Panel Test?

Thousands of people suffer from anaemia without even knowing that they are anaemic. Anemia is a common blood disorder which is caused due to deficiency of red blood cells or haemoglobin. Haemoglobin is a protein pigment produced by the body. An anaemia panel test is a group of blood tests used to help to detect the type of anaemic blood disorders and the underlying cause.

What are the components of the anaemia panel test?

This test can be done alone or along with other investigations. It is a blood test recommended in combination with other routine investigations. The components include CBC, ferritin blood test, total iron binding capacity, Vit B 12, folic acid, and Iron test.

What is the normal range of the anaemia panel test?

Depending upon the value, the report may show high or low levels. A low level of haemoglobin in the CBC test indicates anaemia and requires further investigation. A low level of Iron, Ferritin, Vit B12 or folate indicates deficiency of the essential nutrients. This type of test can better define the type of anaemia, and accordingly, the treatment can be started.
