Oncocept Solid Test Overview

An oncocept solid test, also known as an oncogene test, is a type of genetic test performed to understand which gene mutations have caused cancer in patients. This is not a regular screening test and is generally used in patients who already have an active cancer diagnosis. Understanding the root cause of cancer, namely the genetic mutation that may have caused the disease, can help doctors determine genetic cancer risks and a treatment plan for patients.

Why Is An Oncocept Solid Test Prescribed?

An oncocept solid test is prescribed to patients who have already been diagnosed with cancer. This test is very useful in creating a personalised treatment plan for patients as understanding the genetic mutation that has caused cancer can help doctors determine whether systemic treatments like chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or targeted therapy are best suited for the patient or not. Components of Oncocept Solid Test

The test results of an oncocept solid test are presented by marking the presence or absence of the 52 onco genes that are tested. The presence of a mutation can be termed as one of the underlying causes of cancer and it can be used by doctors to determine the best treatment plan for patients. The oncocept solid test at Aster tests the patient’s sample according to 52 known onco genetic mutations, which helps doctors get a thorough understanding of the patient’s genetic cancer risks. This test is not used as a screening test; it is generally only recommended for patients who have already been diagnosed with cancer.

Procedure And Prerequisites

There are several important prerequisites patients must follow before going through the oncocept solid test. First, histopathology reports need to be submitted with the sample for the test to be conducted. Second, the clinical details must also be shared with the diagnostic centre before the test. Lastly, FFPE blocks and ship ambient must also be included with the sample. The test is performed as a regular blood test, and a sterilised syringe is used to draw blood from the patient’s forearm and send it for laboratory testing.
