The SGOT test stands for Serum Glutamic-Oxaloacetic Transaminase Test and is also known as the Aspartate Amino transferase (AST) Test. Both these tests are the same, and they are used to measure the level of Aspartate Amino transferase (AST) in the blood. This enzyme is found in the liver, heart, and kidneys and is used by the body to convert food into energy.

For men, any test result above 50 can be considered above normal, and for women, any test result above 45 can be regarded as above normal. A higher-than-normal SGOT range in blood tests can be indicative of cardiac problems, liver disease, or conditions like pancreatitis. It is important to note that based on the results of the SGOT test, doctors prescribe further diagnostic or imaging tests to confirm or deny any diagnosis.
