Why is Progesterone Serum Test Prescribed?

Components of Progesterone Serum Test

The progesterone serum test result are described in two forms- Normal and Abnormal Test Results

Under Normal Result-

• At the beginning of the menstrual cycle: 0.89 ng/mL or under

• In the middle of the menstrual cycle: 5-20 ng/mL

• During the first trimester of pregnancy: 11–44 ng/mL

• During the second trimester of pregnancy: 25–83 ng/mL

• During the third trimester of pregnancy: 58–214 ng/mL

• After menopause: 0.5 ng/mL or under

Under Abnormal Test Result

If your test result shows outside the normal range, then it is abnormal. A single abnormal test result may occasionally represent typical variations in your progesterone levels.

Even within a single day, your progesterone levels can vary significantly. In some situations, progesterone levels that are unusually high or low could indicate an underlying medical condition.
