Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) Plasma Test Overview

An adrenocorticotropic hormone test is done alongside a cortisol test to diagnose pituitary or adrenal gland disorders like Cushing’s syndrome, Addison disease, and Hypopituitarism. The purpose of ACTH test is to measure the amount of adrenocorticotropic hormone level present in the blood.

ACTH is known to control the production of another hormone called cortisol, which is why both cortisol and ACTH plasma test are recommended together. ACTH test could also refer to ACTH stimulation test which measures the ability of adrenal gland to respond to stress.

What does ACTH Test results mean?

Hypopituitarism
